The Finale

When all was said and done, I felt that the marketing for Iphigenia 2.0 was handled in the best way that it could have been. Actually, I would not have changed any aspect of the marketing approach. A production like this is very difficult to market in the first place. Their is no "target audience" per-say. However, the theory behind drawing an audience was to present, compare and contrast the aspects of the play in order to make an audience want to see what the play was all about. It seemed we were after an investigative audience. The production was a successful rendition of the Eurpides' classic. I really enjoyed the play, and furthermore, enjoyed the experience of getting to market it.

The project thus far has been very interesting. Over the last few weeks, my task has been to produce an e-mail promoting the play. I have had to edit and revise the e-mail many times already, but it is definitely worth it. As advised by Andy, I read the script for Iphigenia 2.0 in order to understand what the play was all about. Upon reading the script, we collaborated and decided what material needed to be included within the e-mail in order to appeal to a young adult audience. The struggle with a play like Iphigenia 2.0 is the fact that it is a modern version of an older Greek play by Euripides. It is a very unique play in that it is a dark comedy that mixes many different genres of contemporary pop culture with Greek ideology and tackles such topics as moral The problems we are attempting to address include: What is our target audience? What organizations would be interested in show attendance? How do we effectively reach our target audience and other potential audiences?  I am now in the process of making the e-mail larger in size and producing catchy tag-lines.

Marketing Service Project

Hi my name is Matthew VanDyke. I am a student at Virginia Tech. I am currently enrolled in an Arts Marketing class. As a requirement of the class, I must participate in the hands-on experience of marketing by either joining a marketing team for an event or by volunteering service to another community organization.

For my marketing service project, I will be assisting with the marketing of Iphigenia 2.0. This is a mainstage theatre production at Virginia Tech and will be shown in Squires Studio Theatre. I am discussing what i will be doing with the director of the play, Andy Dolan. I will be posting updates concerning this project on this site.
